Amanda Peet describes herself as a ‘very jealous person’

Amanda Peet — who plays double murderer Betty Broderick in a new USA Network series — can relate to her in some ways.

The actress transforms to play the infamous San Diego mother of four who was found guilty of killing her ex-husband, Daniel Broderick III, and his second wife, Linda Kolkena, in November 1989. (After a mistrial Broderick was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder and sentenced to 32-years-to-life in prison).

Peet says that she can relate to Broderick’s rage.

“I can,” she told Page Six. “I’m a very jealous person too and she was really unfairly treated during the court proceedings and I can understand … I mean, I haven’t snapped myself but I’m very fascinated by what makes someone snap.”

The New York native, 48, says that it was fascinating to play a woman who struggled to keep up appearances and appear normal, noting that her childhood was very different from Broderick’s strict Catholic upbringing.

“My mom was a shrink and I grew up in a fairly open household. I didn’t grow up in the social mores of the 50s. My dad told me when I was 8 years old, never rely on any man for your income.

“I didn’t even know what the word income meant,” she explained. “He just kept saying to me and my sister never rely on a man for your income and I said, ‘Well, can I rely on your income right now?’”

Peet’s sister is now a doctor in Philadelphia so she is loathe to complain about quarantining, revealing that she’s currently holed up  in Los Angeles with her husband, “Game of Thrones” co-creator David Benioff, and their three children, Frances, 13, Molly, 10 and Henry, 5.

One thing that doesn’t seem to be going too well for her is home-schooling.

“I’m trying not to become an alcoholic but it could go either way,” she joked.

“Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story” premieres on USA Tuesday night.
