The Queen revealed the day before her Platinum Jubilee that when Prince Charles becomes King, Camilla should become a Queen Consort. When the pair married in 2005, it was said Camilla would be a Princess Consort. This was to cause as little controversy as possible after the death of Princess Diana.

However, the Queen has now confirmed Camilla will indeed be a Queen Consort.

Body language expert Judi James spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about whether Camilla’s body language is in favour of becoming a Queen or not.

Judi said: “Is the Duchess of Cornwall ready to be Queen? Camilla’s body language defines her as a future Queen for Charles, rather than for the nation.

“When she is Queen Consort the second word in that title should, in reality, be more important than the first one, as her role to date has always looked to be first and foremost Charles’s wife, supporter and companion.

“Palace PR might have primed the public in terms of acceptance and even affection towards her but she has never shown any signs of enthusiasm for an individual role in the spotlight or for being seen as the ‘gift to the nation that other royal wives like the Queen Mother, Diana and Kate appeared to be.

“Camilla’s body language has grown from wary and fearful after Diana’s death to more confident as she has grown into a public role.

“She will clearly get it right in terms of her duties as Queen as she has spent years learning how to avoid controversy or criticism in a way that only someone who begins their relationship with the press and public as a hugely controversial figure will do.

“Camilla’s style seems to be to never put a foot wrong but she also appears to be a woman for whom the anxiety of events like a Coronation could be a huge challenge.

“As being seated on a throne beside him wearing what sounds like the Queen Mother’s crown is clearly what Charles wants she should get through all the pomp and circumstance with a smile and a wave.

“But it’s hard to see from her current body language that it will be motivated by anything much more than love and loyalty to her husband,” the expert noted.

Judi expanded on Camilla’s motivation to become a Queen Consort.

She said: “Charles will be her sole catalyst in her role as Queen. Unlike other Queens’ through history, she has not cemented her personal, eternal place in the Firm by giving birth to royal heirs.

“Plus, when Charles dies his heir is the son of Diana, for whom Camilla was the enemy.

“However popular Camilla might become as Queen it is likely she will retreat into relative obscurity once Charles dies.

“Camilla often looks like a woman whose loyalty for her husband is the only thing coaxing her to be in the spotlight as a very public royal figure.

“She tends to look charming but also constantly nervous and very reluctant to be in any sort of starring role in her own right.

“Charles seems to be her guiding light in terms of their choreography on visits and appearances and she never seems to want to be anything other than his constant support.”

Judi spoke about Prince Charles’ reaction to the news.

She said: “Charles is clearly enjoying his rather more high-profile role recently, being seen laughing and joking on visits or making speeches on the global stage in a way that shows how much he enjoys the spotlight.

“With Camilla, unlike Diana, he has no risk of being eclipsed or upstaged.”
