Here’s a closer look at some of today’s stories:
Celebs get involved
While some stars, like Real Housewife of Atlanta Porsha Williams, are joining protests on the front lines, others are handling things differently.
Luxury designer Virgil Abloh is being dragged by protesters for being cheap in supporting their cause. Abloh, 39, is the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection and CEO of the trendy label Off-White.
Abloh posted on his Instagram Stories that he had donated $50 to protesters in need of bail money during the days-long upheaval across the country. In Los Angeles, the RSVP Gallery, which sells his brand, was looted.
“The Miami community ~ I’m crazy inspired. For kids in the streets that need a bail funds [sic] for George Floyd protests,” he wrote in the Story, along with a string of posts about the looting taking place at luxury shops like his. “If it heals your pain, you can have it,” he wrote.
Other celebrities have publicly shared their donation amounts or support for the movement in recent days — Chrissy Teigen upped her original $100,000 donation to a bailout fund to $200,000 after receiving backlash from her followers.
Kylie
Kylie Jenner spent more than $100 million on a huge private jet and multiple monster real estate deals in recent months. Could her spending be part of the reason billionaire status was blown?
On Friday, Forbes published a bombshell report stripping Kylie, 22, of her “youngest-ever self-made billionaire” title, claiming she faked tax returns and used a “web of lies” to boost her net worth.
The magazine said the makeup mogul is now worth less than $900 million after factoring Kylie Cosmetics’ revenue in public filings and the economic effect the coronavirus has had on the beauty industry.
Her lawyer, Michael Kump, countered that the story is “filled with outright lies … Forbes’ accusation that Kylie and her accountants ‘forged tax returns’ is unequivocally false.”
Just call him ‘Spike Wells’
Back in the day, Harry is said to have secretly created a Facebook account under the alter ego “Spike Wells” — a reference to Harry’s onetime nickname Spike.
This was back when he was still dating Chelsy Davy.
The now-deleted account, according to the Mirror, had over 400 friends “including some of the UK’s wealthiest and most glamorous socialites” and listed interest as “all sports.”
The account was active from 2008 to 2012 and listed Wells’ hometown as Maun, Botswana — a favorite of Harry’s. It also featured photos of Prince Harry and his then-girlfriend, Davy as well as one of “three young men in matching Panama hats, one of whom bore an uncanny resemblance to Harry,” the Mirror noted.
Other profile photos included a red-headed child holding his head, captioned: “Oh my God, I’m ginger.”
