Cook makes kids giant chocolate and sweet slabs after Easter egg disappointment

A mum who loves to cook decided to make her children giant chocolate slabs topped with their favourite sweeties after finding shop bought Easter eggs disappointing.

The foodie posted her recipe to Reddit after seeing someone share their annoyance at an Easter egg which only contained three sweets.

She explained: “The Rolo thread reminded me why I gave up buying Easter Eggs and Selection Boxes for my kids, long ago.

“I used to make these for my kids instead.

“They were 9” x 11" and weighed 1kg.

“Great fun to make, haven't made any for years.”

Underneath her caption, the cook posted some mouthwatering snaps of the thick milk chocolate dotted with marshmallows and jelly sweets.

One commenter said: “Wow! Have you got a recipe?!”

The mum replied: “It's just melted (and tempered) chocolate with whatever sweets you'd like on top.

“Edit: a good quality chocolate for melting used to be Lidl's cheapest milk, dark or white chocolate – don't know if it still is."

She continued: “I used big plastic food trays for moulds.

“My oldest son loves fruit in chocolate so, often, his would have a layer of good quality dried fruits on the bottom before I poured in the chocolate.”

Then you just need to let the chocolate cool and refrigerate until solid!

Yum!

A jokester commented: “Hello, it is me, your kid.”

Another wrote: “Woah they look amazing!

“Who would want to buy Easter Eggs after that!”

“They look fantastic,” a third said. “I’m tempted to buy some small Easter bits and give it a go myself.”

While a fellow foodie had another recommendation and wrote: “You can buy Easter egg moulds and make far superior eggs than the shop ones for much less.

“Make the fabled solid chocolate egg.”

We’re so trying this scrumptious idea for Easter…
