Does the Queen's Response to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Interview Prove Meghan Was Telling the Truth?

The world has been reeling since Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry’s revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey. During the interview, the couple brought up a number of alarming accusations, including racism within the royal family. Now, Queen Elizabeth II and Buckingham Palace have responded to the interview. Does their response prove that all of the allegations were true?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview

Meghan revealed bombshell after bombshell throughout the entire two-hour interview. One of the biggest and most damning allegations that she made was that certain members of the royal family were concerned about how dark Archie would be when he was born.

“In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time… we have in tandem the conversation of, he won’t be given security, he’s not gonna be given a title and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might when he’s born,” Meghan told Oprah.

For a family who represents multiple, diverse countries, it seemed odd to Meghan that the royals would be worried about skin color.

“The Commonwealth is a huge part of the monarchy and I lived in Canada, which is a Commonwealth country, for seven years,” she said. “But it wasn’t until Harry and I were together that we started to travel through the Commonwealth… 60, 70 percent of which is people of color.”

As the Commonwealth is so diverse, Meghan thought the royals would be happy to have a more diverse family.

“I could never understand how it wouldn’t be seen as an added benefit and a reflection of the world today, at all times, but especially right now,” she said. “To go, how inclusive is that you can see someone who looks like you in this family, much less one who’s born into it.”

In addition to the race issue, Meghan also claimed that she began having suicidal thoughts while she was pregnant and the royal family refused to allow her to get help.

The queen’s response to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Earlier today, the queen finally responded to the interview.

“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” a statement released by Buckingham Palace on behalf of the queen reads.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning,” the statement continued. “While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members,” the statement closes.

Does the queen’s response mean the allegations are true?

The strangest thing about the queen’s response was that she did not deny anything. The closest that she came to refuting the claims was saying that “recollections may vary.”

In the past, when certain allegations against the royal family have come about, they have publicly denied them. But in this case, they chose to address the matter “privately.”
