Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey have had a roller coaster romance since they won Love Island in 2016.

After a split in 2017 that left Love Island series two fans heartbroken, the winners soon got back together and announce they were engaged.

After a brief split the couple got back together just weeks before Cara gave birth to beautiful Freddie-George and their relationship has gone from strength to strength ever since, with Nathan popping the engagement question in the Love Island villa.

July 2016: Cara and Nathan win Love Island

Cara, a circus performer, joined the show in May 2016.

It's there she met Nathan, a carpenter, and it wasn't long before they fell for one another.

They won over the public with their romance, as viewers voted for them as the winners of the reality show, beating duos Alex Bowen and Olivia Buckland and Scott Thomas and Kady McDermott.

September 2016: Love Island winners move in together

Proving their love was no showmance, the couple stayed joined at the hip once the summer series finished.

The went out to events hand-in-hand and looked completely loved up in holiday snaps.

And within a few months, the couple confirmed their commitment with one another by moving in together in September 2016.


Early 2017: Public fights and split rumours

But paradise didn't last too long for the two, as the cracks began to show for Cara and Nathan.

In January 2017, the pair were spotted having a very public row while holidaying in Gran Canaria.

The fight ended with the brunette beauty throwing her drink all over her beau.

But just days later they turned up at the National Television Awards looking as in love as ever.


Despite the red carpet appearance and each of them proceeding to flood Instagram with loved-up selfies, the reality stars were hit with split rumours just a month later.

A source told The Sun: "Nathan and Cara have always had a fiery relationship with plenty of ups and downs.

They continued: "But their latest bust-up is their biggest yet and it’ll be tough for them to come back from this."

March 2017: Cara and Nathan squash rumours and talk babies

Speaking to OK! magazine, they soon shut down split rumours again as they began talking about a family together.

Cara confessed: "I want loads of kids. I've always been very maternal."

While Nathan agreed, he chimed in to add: "But we want to live our lives first, see the world, and then, yeah, in a few years we'll think about having kids, definitely."

April 2017: The couple sadly split

Despite future plans, the couple sadly split in April 2017.

Before the couple confirmed their heartbreak, speaking to The Sun, a source said: "They’ve both mutually agreed to call it quits. It hasn’t been an easy decision but in the end they decided things would be better apart."

The source continued: "They stayed really amicable and will definitely do all they can to be friendly."

May 2017: Cara announces pregnancy in OK! magazine

Speaking exclusively to OK! magazine, the mum-to-be revealed she had no idea she was pregnant until an appointment to remove cancerous cells from her cervix.

She confessed: "They have to check if you're pregnant first, but I said to the doctor: 'I don't think there's any need for that!'

"They did it anyway and a nurse came back and said: 'You're pregnant!'

"I was with my mum and we just looked at each other in complete shock. I went in for one thing and came out expecting a baby."

Although she won't be reunited with her former lover just for the baby's sake.

But they are still good pals, and Cara confirmed: "He's going to be there for the baby and I'm making him aware of all the midwife appointments and scans, so he's in the loop and so's his mum."

She insists: "We're not together but we're doing it together."

July 2017: Nathan and Cara attend baby scan together

For the first time since their split, Nathan and Cara reunited publicly on July 21, 2017 to attend a hospital appointment together.

The pair looked excited as they cradled the bump, and Cara later shared a scan snap on Instagram.

August 2017: Couple tease reunion

Speaking to OK! magazine the duo revealed they're "getting on better than ever" as TOWIE star Cara revealed plans for an unusual baby shower.

Discussing their relationship, Nathan gave fans hope that reconciliation could be on the cards, saying: "We talk all day, every day and she sends me pictures of the nursery. We're getting on better than ever."

Cara added: "We're excited to see what happens. Babies do change things. I still have love for him."

However the pair were keen to explain they wouldn't be rushing things, with Cara saying: "We've always said we wouldn't get back together just because of the baby."

September 2017: Cara admits they're dating again

Cara has revealed the duo are "dating again" following their split.

She said: "He comes round and helps me sort out stuff with the nursery. He'll stay for a takeaway and a film, but it's not at the sleepover stage!

"It's proper dating – if we'd have met like this a year ago, it's how we would have been."

She added to Reveal: "It's nice, as we miss each other. It's exciting again."

November 2017: Couple tease engagement


The reality stars, after getting back together officially, sparked engagement rumours in November, as the mum-to-be posted a picture of herself sporting a huge rock on her ring finger.

"Is she engaged?!" one fan wrote, while another asked if the huge jewel was an engagement ring.

"She’s engaged!!!" another fan wrote Cara, but neither she nor Nathan commented on the speculation.

December 2017: Cara gives birth

Cara and Nathan updated fans following the arrival of their newborn on December 13 2017.

Sharing a picture of her baby's hand, Cara wrote: "So today we met the hand we will hold forever. So in love my heart could burst."

The reality star duo later revealed they named their baby Freddie-George De La Hoyde Massey in OK! magazine exclusively.

Cara said: "I have been wearing this ring for months and it has the baby's initials 'FG' on it. We knew his name for four or five months. We’re not engaged so I wear his name on my ring finger as he’s my little man."

July 2018: Engagement news

The couple finally announced their engagement, telling OK! magazine exclusively about the proposal and their plans.

Cara said: “It was so romantic that he proposed in the Love Island villa. This is where we met – we’ve come full circle.”

Speaking about his ring choice, Nathan added: “It’s Asscher cut, two carats and I went to Trésor Paris in Hatton Garden."

June 2019: Wedding

The couple – who have a son, Freddie, together – tied the knot in a lavish and romantic ceremony in front of close friends and family last summer at Preston Barn in Canterbury, three years after first meeting on the hit show.

Having gone through one break up since they came out of the villa, the couple's relationship is stronger than ever, with them both admitting their time apart only made them stronger.
