LOCKDOWN has meant plenty of time at home and many of us have used this to clear out unwanted clothes – and cash-in by selling them.
Britons have collectively made more than £430 million by selling unwanted garments, according to research by wardrobe firm Spaceslide.
But this isn’t the only way we’ve been saving dosh because of lockdown lifestyle.
Here are the ways in which social distancing has left us stashing extra cash . . .
MONEY FOR NOTHING: Space-slide has calculated the monetary value of lockdown clearouts, based on average eBay selling prices.
For example, if you’ve got a pair of trainers that you just don’t wear any more, it’s well worth listing them for sale.
Men’s trainers are selling for an average of £79.11 and women’s for £54.93 so you could easily be quids in.
BEAN COUNTING: At the start of lockdown, many of us made huge savings on nabbing daily takeaway coffees — with at-home brews being far easier on the wallet.
But, now that shops are open again, we’re still saving brew-tifully thanks to the new VAT cuts.
According to data found by thinkmoney.co.uk, this means that the average regular latte is now 13p cheaper.
So, if you were to purchase one every weekday over the six-month VAT cut, you would save an extra £15.60 — or the equivalent of six free lattes.
SCREEN-TIME SAVINGS: According to a recent survey, we have increased our “screen time” by 55 per cent since lockdown began.
This can be turned to your financial advantage by using your laptop, phone or tablet to take part in online surveys.
It may sound rather tedious and it does take time to tot up funds, but sites like Swagbucks, Valued Opinions and MySurvey are good places to start.
If you’re already spending more time online, why not giver it a go?
