Neighbours boss on Kylie and Jason's return: 'It wouldn't be right without them'

Neighbours has confirmed the return of breakout stars Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan as beloved couple Charlene and Scott Robinson for the show’s finale as it comes to an end after nearly 40 years.

A statement by soap boss Jason Herbison shared to Twitter on Sunday said that the programme was ‘thrilled’ to be welcoming them back.

‘Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple and it would not feel right to end the show without them,’ the executive producer commented.

‘We are thrilled that Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special part in our series finale…

‘It has been an emotional experience for them, for us and I’m sure it will be for our viewers.’

Herbison’s words were shared alongside two pictures that together formed a close-up shot of a Neighbours script, with the soap’s title, the names Scott and Charlene and the location of Ramsay Street, the cul-de-sac where the characters on the show live.

Earlier this year, Jason spoke out on Neighbours being axed, saying that it was time to ‘celebrate’ the long-lasting show.

‘It’s kept my family employed for a long time to be honest! My daughter is in it, so is my dad,’ he said at the time.

‘We should be grateful for what it’s given Australia, actors, producers, writers, directors.’
