After 37 years on our TV screens, fans across the world were left broken hearted last year when it was revealed that Australian soapNeighbours wouldbe coming to an end. However, in a surprise announcement earlier this year it was revealed thatthe show was set to make a comeback and that cast members had started filming for the new series.
Throughout its nearly four-decade long history, Neighbours has helped launch the careers of stars includingKylie Minogue,Margot Robbie and Liam Hemsworth. And another actor who got their big break on the show is Kristian Schmid who appeared on Ramsay Street in the 1980s and 1990s.
Kicking off his acting career from a young age, Kristian secured a role on Neighbours when he was just 12 years old after auditions were held at his school. After a successful audition, Kristian cast as Todd Landers and starred in the soap between 1988 and 1992.
While starring in Neighbours, Kristian’s character Todd moved to Erinsborough alongside his sister Katie Landers where they were greeted by their aunt Beverly Marshall – who was already an established character at the time.
Throughout his time on the show, Todd made his way through school but was sadly killed off in 1992. After his girlfriend Phoebe Bright fell pregnant, the pair came to the conclusion that she would have an abortion.
However, Todd changed his mind and in one tragic scene rushed to the hospital to stop Phoebe having an abortion but was hit by a van while on the way.
Despite his on screen death, Kristian later returned to Erinsborough as a ghostly figure to reassure Phoebe that she'd be ok moving forward.
Following his four-year stint in the popular Australian soap, Kristian continued to work in the world of acting and appeared in TV shows including The Tomorrow People and Sea Patrol. During its time on TV, he even appeared on an episode of Noel’s House Party.
Meanwhile on the big screen, starred in the 2002 Scooby-Doo film alongside the likes of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. He’s also appeared on stage and has worked on three different versions of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
But while viewers may know his for his work in Neighbours, that’s not the only Australian soap that Todd has appeared in. In fact, between 2016 and 2017, Kristian appeared in 30 episodes of Home and Away as the character Mick Jennings.
