There’s no better way to lift the Queen’s spirits than with a puppy.
The famed corgi lover received a 6-week old pooch this week from her middle son, Prince Andrew, and his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, according to The Sun.
“The Queen has had a rough time and she is absolutely delighted to have a new corgi,” an insider told The Sun.
The trio presented the Queen with the corgi pup on Thursday, which would have been her late husband Prince Philip’s 100th birthday. The gift also came just days before the monarch’s official 95th birthday, which she celebrated on Saturday.
In May, the Queen’s 5-month-old old dachshund-corgi cross Fergus, also a gift from Andrew, sadly died, reportedly leaving her “distraught.” Andrew is said to have given Fergus and another dog to his mother earlier this year while Philip was in the hospital.
“[The Queen] was distraught when Fergus died suddenly,” the royal insider said, “but this new dog will be perfect company for [her other dog] going forward.”
As one might expect, the Queen’s corgis always receive the royal treatment.
Darren McGrady, a chef who worked inside Buckingham Palace for 15 years, said last year that one of his first on-the-job responsibilities was to cook elaborate meals for the canines.
“I thought I was going to be cooking for kings, queens and presidents. I did eventually, but one of the first jobs I had was cooking for the corgis – the royal corgis – making fresh food every day,” he said.
The pampered pooches also had footmen, McGrady said.
