A 10-year-old girl has died after a suspected hit-and-run incident.
The girl was left fighting for her life in hospital after being hit on Wednesday night but sadly passed away today.
Emergency services were called to Hillsview Avenue in Kenton, Newcastle at around 6.40pm.
Police said the person behind the wheel fled on foot after abandoning the car.
A manhunt was launched for the driver of a white Renault Kangoo and police have today revealed they've brought a 23-year-old man into custody.
While another man, also aged 23, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, reports Chronicle Live.
Two women aged 31 and 28 remain in police custody having earlier been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
Police have described the crash as a "horrific incident that has robbed a family of their little girl and has had a significant impact on members of the community in Kenton."
Northumbria Police Chief Inspector, Chris Grice, welcomed the arrest but said nothing the police could do would bring the girl back to her grieving family.
