Arriving at the supermarket and realising you don’t have a pound for the shopping trolley is one of life’s little annoyances.
But one canny shopper has come up with a clever hack to get around the problem – provided you have a couple of 20 pence coins in your purse.
Dan Groove Drake shared his top tip on the Latest Deals, Extreme Couponing and Bargains Group on Facebook last weekend, and it’s gone down a storm with members.
He wrote: ‘Just a Sunday tip… If you don’t have a pound coin or a trolley coin, put two 20s together and boom it will work.’

Many people praised the hack, with some admitting they’d been doing this for years.
Shaun Machin wrote: ‘100 per cent works me and wife have done this on separate occasions.’
Fiona Kennedy added: ‘I’ve done this before it really does work,’ while Jayde Platt revealed: ‘I did this in Iceland this morning and it worked haha.’
‘I always do this,’ Erica Thomas Batten admitted, while Mel Ruler boasted: ‘I’ve known this for about 20 years… surely it’s not just me?’

Many Facebook users thanked him for the handy tip, while some admitted they’d been doing it for years
But not everyone has found it useful, with some complaining they’d tried it at other supermarkets and ended up jamming the mechanism.
Several pointed out that it only works in a particular type of coin holder and others recommended not trying it at Asda, Farmfoods or Aldi.
‘Don’t do it in Aldi, it doesn’t work,’ warned Jayne Woods.
Another member, Cyndi Elisa, wrote: ‘Don’t do this please they get stuck and it takes forever for us to get them out.’

A number of people suggested using the plastic tokens some supermarkets give out for charitable donations, while others claimed the key from a corned beef tin works a treat.
Some also revealed they’ve used their front door key in the past – though a couple reported horror stories of it getting stuck.
All things considered, it might just be safer to make sure you’ve got a spare £1 tucked away in your purse at all times…
