A pensioner who feared he wouldn’t see anyone on his 92nd birthday because of being in isolation due to the coronavirus is captured shedding a tear after his friends and neighbours gathered outside his home to serenade him.
In a video shared on Twitter by his granddaughter, Peter Sheen, from Letchmore Heath in Hertfordshire, is seen standing on his doorstep as a makeshift choir – all standing at a safe social distance from each other – break out into a rousing rendition of happy birthday.
His granddaughter, Beth Pickard, posted that her relative had been ‘so sad’ at the thought of spending his birthday in solitary confinement.
The video has already had almost 50,000 views on Twitter.

She wrote: ‘It’s my grandad’s 92nd birthday today. He was so sad he couldn’t have any visitors and then this happened. My heart.’
The clip begins showing a pretty row of terrace houses bathed in sunlight on the edge of Letchmore Heath.
Peter is then seen emerging from his front door as the singers begin a spirited version of happy birthday.
Beth told FEMAIL: ‘His neighbours and friends surprised him, as he thought he wasn’t going to see anyone on his birthday.

She said the gesture had made him cry, adding: ‘He’s the most sociable 92-year-old who still lives by himself, so it really made his day!’
Peter, who was born in the late twenties, well before the outbreak of the Second World War, looked delighted with the surprising greeting.
On Twitter, there was a wave of positive reaction to the video.

Peter, who was born well before the outbreak of World War II in the late twenties, is pictured watching the sing-song from his doorstep
