Whirlpool customer who filmed ‘smoking’ machine ‘told it’s not on recall list’

A Whirlpool customer who filmed her 'smoking' washing machine says she was told it is not included in the major recall list.

Vicci Marshall said she was lucky to have caught the moment she said smoke billowed out from her Indesit machine on Sunday.

She said she called on the company to investigate but was told that the model was not listed as part of the huge product recall.

She posted the video a day after Whirlpool announced the recall of more than 500,000 Hotpoint and Indesit fire-risk washing machines bought in the UK between October 2014 and February 2018.

Vicci, a secondary maths teacher, called on the public to 'check your machines' as she wrote: "Whirlpool have recalled some washing machines due to fire hazard.

"Our model isn't listed (IWME126UK), yet this happened Sunday. Luckily was stood next to it. Check your machines!

"Whirlpool UK check this model and get in touch. Phoned but they claim not to hear me."

The washer and dryer giant left a comment under Vicci's query, which said: "Thank you for providing your model details, I can confirm your washing machine is not affected by this campaign."

Vicci was not happy with the company's response as she hoped they would take the matter more seroiusly.

She wrote: "That's it? I already knew it wasn't a listed model.

"I thought you might like to look into it a bit more than that in case there is an issue with this model before there is a serious disaster as a result.

"I guess not. Let's hope it doesn't get to that then!"

Vicci said Whirlpool got in touch with her later and booked her an engineer for inspection on Saturday.

Vicci wrote: "We already have a new one and certainly won't be using this one again, but if there is a common fault with this model hopefully they will spot it and share it."
