We’ve seen the wolf cut, the mullet and even the butterfly cut – but now, it’s time for its latest reiteration – the ‘hush cut’.
According to British Vogue, it’s set to ‘dominate’ this autumn; the softer iteration of the theatrical 70s style layers A-listers have been sporting has been a huge hit in South Korea, and has now made its way to other shores.
The style’s hashtag has a whopping 64.8 million views on TikTok, with many on social media fawning over its practical nature. It’s also been praised for looking flattering as it continues to grow out.
Celebrity stylist Marcus Francis says that its popularity can be linked to how easy it is to upkeep.
‘A lot of the heaviness is sliced out when layering,’ he told Bustle. ‘So it makes it easier.’

The trend can be seen all the way back in 2019 to 2020, with Miley Cyrus adopting a delicately styled, bleach blonde mullet-esque cut in what has become a signature look for the singer.
In the next year, Billie Eilish followed suit with a face-framing platinum ‘do that went on to grace the album artwork for her album, Happier Than Ever.
In 2022, Molly Mae Hague took to Instagram to share a snap sporting a glamorous version of the cut and channelling a Y2K vibe with her voluminous look. More recently, other Love Island stars have also sported the trend.
