He’s not gonna take it.
Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will front the Super Bowl Halftime Show come February 2020 — but one musician wishes the NFL had gone with another artist who would really rock the stadium.
While Twitter erupted in celebration on Thursday after the two Latina artists were named as co-headliners for the Miami game, Twisted Sister star Dee Snider was frustrated with the choice. In a series of tweets he explained that while he didn’t mean it as a "slight" to the two women, he was holding out hope another music genre would get the spotlight.
"WTF!? @shakira and @jlo for this year’s @nfl halftime show!?" he began on Thursday evening. "Once again the great heavy music that rocks the stadiums week after week, game after game is completely ignored. I guess we don’t shake our ass enough!!"
"My point about this years @NFL halftime show isn’t a slight on @shakira or @JLo, it’s frustration that week after week rock is the go to music during games but gets no respect when it comes to the Super Bowl," he continued. "And I don’t think I’m popular enough for that slot. But @Metallica…"
His rant continued on Friday morning, as he tweeted, "To add insult to injury, Jay Z is promoting this year”s @NFL Super Bowl half time show (no problem with that) and his company is called …ROCK NATION?! #Wherestherock?" Someone later corrected him, telling Snider it’s actually "Roc Nation."
When one of Snider’s fans agreed with him, adding that they could think of a number of rock groups who would kill it, Dee chimed in with a few more suggestions of his own. "What about @acdc? What about @gunsnroses? What about @foofighters? Any of this bands would bring any house down," he responded.
After a critic said he and others complaining were "poor racist babies" who decided to "talk shit about two iconic and legendary Latinas performing their own current hits for their fans," he shot down the suggestion. "Another dick heard from. Bringing something that has nothing to do with music into the picture."
Snider backlash aside, Lopez and Shakira will hit the stage at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL on Feb 2, 2020. Their performance will follow the A-list headliners in recent years, including Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Maroon 5.
