Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell became two of the music industry’s hottest breakout stars after their wins at the 2020 Grammy Awards. The dynamic sibling duo has been hard at work over the past several years, and the Recording Academy continues to honor their work at this year’s ceremony.
Billie Eilish swept the 2020 Grammy Awards’ major categories
At the 2020 Grammy Awards, Eilish became only the second artist in history and youngest person ever to win the four major categories: Best New Artist, Song of the Year and Record of the Year for her number-one single “bad guy,” and Album of the Year for When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? Her debut album also took home the golden gramophone for Best Pop Vocal Album.
Eilish’s career has continued to thrive in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, and the teenage singer is up for four awards at this year’s ceremony: Best Song Written for Visual Media for her James Bond theme “No Time to Die” and Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Everything I Wanted.”
Finneas O’Connell has worked with his sister Billie Eilish from the beginning
Eilish and O’Connell’s music careers have been inextricably tied from the beginning. O’Connell has been his sister’s producer and songwriter since her debut in 2016. Eilish’s career — and by association, O’Connell’s — began to blow up in the following years with Platinum-selling singles such as “Bellyache,” “Ocean Eyes,” and “Idontwannabeyouanymore.”
O’Connell and his sister collaborated for the entirety of When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, so O’Connell’s success today, just as has been the case in the past, is in tandem with his sister’s.
Finneas O’Connell has earned Grammy Awards too
O’Connell shared four of Eilish’s Grammy wins in 2020 for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album. In addition, O’Connell himself won two golden gramophones of his own for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and Producer of the Year, Non-Classical.
O’Connell is once again nominated with his sister at the 2021 Grammys, this time sharing three nominations with his sister for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Song Written for Visual Media. “No Time to Die” took home the prize for Best Song Written for Visual Media early in the evening, bringing Eilish’s grand total of Grammys to six and O’Connell’s to seven.
