Piers Morgan brands Susanna Reid ‘brilliant’ and says they’re ‘closer than ever’

Piers Morgan has credited a tough 2020 with cementing his and Susanna Reid 's friendship both on- and off-screen.

The Good Morning Britain host has had his say on the difficult year, which has seen the two of them take on politicians and other tough subjects.

And Piers, 55, said: "I feel like Susanna and I had each other's backs during some very difficult shows.

"She's brilliant and I hugely value our often brutally honest friendship, on-screen and off."

The controversial host labelled 2020 as "the toughest year work-wise" however made it clear it was "nothing compared to what health and care workers have been through", dealing with the pandemic.

Piers added: "It's not been easy but it's been very rewarding. I think we've all felt the huge burden of responsibility to inform and guide our viewers through this turbulent, troubling time and I'm proud of how we've done it."

The two of them may be on their winter break at the moment, but they will be back on Christmas Day for a very special episode.

Piers told The Mirror he hopes to "bring a bit of cheer" especially as many people may be on their own, because of things such as Tier 4 restrictions.

According to the former Britain's Got Talent judge, the Christmas Good Morning Britain will bring "festive silliness", some guests and even "a tear or two".

They won't be the only ITV regulars appearing on our screens on Christmas Day, though.

Lorraine Kelly will take her usual 9am slot for her show Lorraine.

She will be followed by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby for a This Morning special at 10am.

Currently on Good Morning Britain, Piers and Susanna are being replaced by Adil Ray and Charlotte Hawkins.

Ranvir Singh has been standing in for Lorraine, and This Morning and Loose Women have been off-air.
