Dustin Diamond reportedly believes his stage four lung cancer was caused by the "mould or asbestos" found in cheap hotel rooms.
The 44-year-old, best known for playing Screech in the 90s teen series Saved By The Bell, is currently undergoing chemotherapy in a medical facility in Florida.
Earlier this month, it was revealed the actor had been hospitalised, with his representative later confirming Dustin was battling stage four lung cancer.
According to TMZ, as Dustin isn't a smoker, the screen star believes the disease was caused by the inhalation of toxins during hotel stays over the years.
Travelling across the US as a stand-up comedian, Dustin would reportedly frequent a number of budget hotels during his tour.
Dustin allegedly feared his stays in these "cheap hotels for work" had caused the disease.
The publication reported: "Dustin believes some of these spots might have had mold or asbestos … which he could have breathed in, causing his cancer."
Daily Star has contacted Dustin's representatives for comment.
In a statement released last week via Dustin's Facebook page, his representative confirmed the actor had sadly been diagnosed with cancer.
It read: "At this time we can confirm that Dustin does have cancer.
"Dustin will disclose more information once it is available and a plan moving forward is made."
Dustin's rep told Daily Star the actor has completed his first round of chemotherapy, and his next round is being scheduled.
The beloved TV personality is due to undergo physical therapy in the weeks to come.
Boosting his morale, Dustin's girlfriend has been keeping him company, and he has been receiving fan mail from his international supporters.
At the age of 12, Dustin landed his breakout role as Samuel "Screech" Powers on Saved By The Bell, starring alongside the likes of Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Mario Lopez.
The original show wrapped in the early 90s, but Dustin appeared in its various spin-offs, including Saved by the Bell: The New Class and Saved by the Bell: The College Years.
In the years that followed, Dustin formed a metal band known as Salty The Pocketknife, and appeared on a number of competitive reality TV shows in the US, as well as the UK's Celebrity Big Brother.
At the same time, Dustin toured the world as a stand-up comic, often referencing Saved By The Bell in his comedy routines.
