What is An American Pickle about?

An American Pickle is adapted by Simon Rich from his 2013 New Yorker novella Sell Out, and is certainly an off-beat comedic film.

The movie follows Herschel Greenbaum, a gravedigger who immigrates to America in 1919 with dreams of building a better life for his family.

One day, while working at his factory job, he falls into a vat of pickles and is brined for 100 years.

He is preserved perfectly in the brine and in 2019, he emerges in present-day Brooklyn, having not aged at all and goes to find his relatives.

His only surviving relative is his great-grandson, Ben Greenbaum, a quiet, shy, computer coder.

The two go on a journey of understanding as Herschel tries to understand the new life he has to lead, while also trying to inspire his young grandson.

But there are, as is often the case, lots of difficult lessons both Greenbaums need to learn.

Who stars in An American Pickle?

Seth Rogen plays both Herschel and Ben Greenbaum, continuing the dual role trend seen recently.

There are many roles in the film, but Sarah Snook plays Sarah Greenbaum, Eliot Glazer is Christian and Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Island fame is Liam.

Kalen Allen plays Kevin and Molly Evensen as Clara, in the roles most prominent in the movie.

Brandon Trost directed An American Pickle, which was produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver.

Is there a trailer for An American Pickle?

There is a trailer for The American Pickle, and it certainly seems to be a pretty strange movie.

Seth Rogen has a very strong Eastern European accent in the movie, and he seems confused by everything from cars, snacks and the lack of religion seen in the world.

Herschel is also shocked at his young great grandson’s willingness to be quiet and without a family, as he tries to force his great grandson to be more forceful.
