Viewers of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing spotted a huge "audience blunder" after the studio audience returned for the first time in two years – with some branding it "fake".

The beloved dancing competition catapulted back onto our screens tonight, with a packed studio audience for the first time in 24 months due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

But fans were quick to spot something a little "off" with the studio audience on Friday night (September 23).

Viewers at home were quick to take to the lively Strictly hashtag to live tweet about the glitzy launch show, with many pointing out one thing.

"Judging by the volume of the cheering and clapping there must be 10,000 people in that audience," one viewer noted under the hashtag.

Someone then replied: "But the audience at the side of the dance floor weren't even clapping.."

To which the original tweeter branded the clapping as "fake" when they added: "I know. The fake cheering and clapping is so over the top!"

While another person exclaimed: "NOT THERE BEING APPLAUSE AUDIO PLAYING BUT NONE OF THE AUDIENCE ARE CLAPPING ??? SCREAMING #Strictly."

Elsewhere fans were emotional to see the audience back for the first time in two years, with one person writing: "Feel strangely emotional seeing the full audience, we’ve been through so MUCH."

"It’s great having a full studio audience back! #strictly," gushed a second.

While a third went on to add: "Having the audience back is making me a bit teary."

This comes as multiple segments of Strictly return this year for the first time since the start of the pandemic.
