As usual, Strictly Come Dancing celebrated Halloween Week but some of those tuning in were left disappointed by the routines for the spooky special. It was hoped by fans the celebrities would all be in scary costumes and dancing to songs linked to Halloween. However, some song choices and outfits for the themed week left viewers scratching their head.
Many claimed the songs and costumes weren’t even related to theme and the dance competition was not taking the week seriously.
As Will Mellor took to the dance floor with Nancy Xu to perform to Mama Told Me Not To Come by Tom Jones and Stereophonics, viewer Tony complained: “Will’s song isn’t spooked up enough for my liking! I demand my licence fee back! #Strictly.”
He wasn’t the only one to rage over the themed week, with @FlopsyPickle tweeting: “What an odd song choice #Strictly #strictly2022 #StrictlyComeDancing.”
Suzi Carrigan argued: “If you’re gonna do a theme, at least have songs relating to the theme! #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”
Many viewers claimed some celebrities had been “unlucky” with the theme arguing it hindered their routines.
Marina said of Ellie Simmonds’ dance: “I think Ellie actually concentrated on the ballroom technique and steps, but it lacked something, and suffered due to the theme. #Strictly.”
Sam Bell added: “Not very Halloween from Fleur, what happened to the theme? #Strictly.”
Ahead of the Halloween special, bookmakers revealed Hamza Yassin is the clear favourite to win this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Having once been a massive outsider for the Glitterball Trophy, the bookies now have the CBeebies star priced at 8/11 to go all the way.
Elsewhere it’s bad news for Kym Marsh – who is now 2/1 to be sent packing, putting her ahead of James Bye and Ellie Taylor both 5/2 in the betting.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “All eyes are on Hamza Yassin as far as viewers and punters are concerned, with the odds now very much in his favour to go all the way.”
Molly Rainford will be hoping to avoid the dreaded dance-off for a second week in a row with professional partner Carlos Gu.
The pair performed the Argentine Tango to Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) by Kate Bush.
However, it failed to impress as the judges delivered some harsh feedback to the singer.
Anton Du Beke said of the performance: “This particular dance lacked a little intensity in order to make it an absolute showstopper.”
Craig Revel Horwood added: “Everything in this dance is a reaction to the leader, I felt like you were dancing two different dances, they felt like you weren’t actually following.
“It’s true, getting in and out of lifts was really, really ugly you need to make that a lot more beautiful.”
Despite the criticism, Molly and Carlos managed to score 33 points for their Argentine Tango.
