In ABC’s new series Big Sky, two teenage girls have been kidnapped, and private detectives search for them. The girls have been taken by people involved in a sex trafficking ring, and they are trying to find a way to escape. This week, one of them makes some headway.

2 teenagers are abducted
Two sisters have gone missing, Danielle (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Grace (Jade Pettyjohn) while driving on a rural road in Montana. Danielle’s boyfriend, Justin (Gage Marsh), gets his private investigator parents involved, Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) and Cody Hoyt (Ryan Phillippe), who work alongside Cody’s private investigator partner, Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury), as they search for the missing girls. They have yet to discover Ronald Pergman (Brian Geraghty), the long-haul trucker who kidnapped the girls. He also kidnapped Jerry (Jesse James Keitel) before abducting the teenagers.
When Cody gets in contact with state trooper Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch), he gets too close, and Rick shoots and murders him, as he’s also involved in the sex trafficking ring. It turns out he actually chose Ronald to abduct girls in the area.
Danielle, Grace, and Jerry try to escape
Danielle, Grace, and Jerry are being held in a trailer attachment of some kind underground by Ronald. The trio tries to escape, including attempting to manipulate Ronald by singing choir hymns, but that doesn’t seem to make a difference.
Finally, they realize a side of the metal trailer can be bent, and all three push their feet, allowing Grace to slide through after she releases both herself and the others from her chains. She discovers a drain with running water connected to a sewer, and she actually falls through it after trying to open the covering to get inside. Ronald does discover Grace as she’s crawling through the pipe underground. He promises not to kill her sister if she comes back, but the floor and drainage pipe collapses above them. But Grace somehow finds a way out of the sewer and into the wilderness.
Why Rick goes searching for 1 of the missing girls
Ronald tells Rick that one of them escaped, and Rick isn’t happy, since he’s involved in the whole thing as well. “She’s out there?” he asks in disbelief. Ronald thinks Grace was “buried alive,” but Rick wonders if she might have still managed to escape.
“That ditch leads to an outflow,” Rick says. “There’s freedom on the other end of it. Her freedom, which would bring an abrupt conclusion to ours.”
Rick eventually finds her after following her trail and locating a boot that she left behind. When Grace finds a fisherman and tries to get his assistance, it leads to the end of his life when Rick shoots him with an arrow as they are about to cross the river. He first plays it off like he’s there to help her, but Grace knows something is wrong since Rick killed an innocent man.
“I heard screaming,” Rick tells her. “I thought he was hurting you. You were screaming about kidnapping.”
She tries to get away, but Rick grabs her and says, “Where are you going? It’s dangerous out there.”
Grace runs off after flinging a fishing hook into his face, but Rick shoots her in the leg with an arrow twice. He pulls the arrows out, disposes of the body of the man he just killed, and takes Grace back to where she was being held.
Jerry asks if he’s there to help them, as he’s dressed in his state trooper attire, but he isn’t, and closes the door to their makeshift cell.
Grace escapes, but it doesn’t last long. Hopefully, the trio can find a way out before it’s too late.
