Britain's Got Talent: Piers Morgan tells Ashley Banjo to 'ignore the haters' as BLM dance sparks 10,000 complaints

PIERS Morgan has publicly backed Ashley's Banjo's Black Lives Matter dance after it was hit with more than 10,000 complaints.

Speaking about the Britain's Got Talent routine, which saw a white cop kneeling on the Diversity star, he said: "I thought it was great."

The GMB star, 55, supported Ashley as the performance became the second most-complained-about TV moment of the decade after the CBB 'punchgate' row.

Piers wrote: "I thought it was great. Ignore the haters, Ashley. Proud of you. ?"

He also retweeted a message that Ashley shared on Sunday, the day after the performance.

The 31-year-old star wrote: "So much to say… But I’ll Just let the performance talk. Thousands of messages of Love and support – Thank you.

"For the thousands of messages of hate and ignorance – Thank you. You highlight exactly what needs to change. Sending nothing but love to you all."

Ashley's brother Jordan later fought back tears while defending the dance on his radio show.

Alesha Dixon also stuck up for Ashley, who has been standing in as a judge on BGT as Simon Cowell recovers from his back injury.

The Diversity frontman shared an image of himself alongside boxer Anthony Joshua and Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton.

Underneath the pictures, it read: "Dear Joshua and Banjo and other Black public figures.

"We the Great British Public will only support you if you entertain us and do not say anything about racism."

Alesha replied: "They can kiss my black a**".

Diversity's performance, which referenced the death of George Floyd in the US, saw backing dancers performing dressed in riot gear.

The group also took the knee during the performance, which has become the second most complained-about TV moment in a decade with with 10,267 contacting Ofcom.

The first is Roxanne Pallett’s Celebrity Big Brother ‘punchgate’ drama with former Corrie star Ryan Thomas with 25,327 complaints.

It surpasses Kim Woodburn’s interview on Loose Women which holds the third-place spot with 7,912 complaints.

Some BGT viewers said the "powerful" performance had moved them to tears while others insisted a "political statement” had no place on the talent show.
