Britain's Got Talent to return in two weeks despite coronavirus lockdown

Britain’s Got Talent will return in two weeks’ time despite the coronavirus pandemic.

An announcement on Twitter reads: ‘Confirmed: Britain’s Got Talent returns Saturday 11 April at 8pm on ITV #bgt @antanddec.’

ITV previously revealed they were considering how to make the live shows work amid the pandemic.

‘We are also working with our production colleagues to see how we can make the BGT live shows work in an ever-changing situation and we will update on this in due course,’ they said.

Meanwhile, in a recent advert, which showed judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Amanda Holden strutting down a red carpet, ITV revealed that the show would be back this month.

The announcement comes after TV bosses made the decision to postpone the live shows amid the coronavirus outbreak.

A source previously told The Sun Online that live shows could potentially return in September.

‘They have no idea when the live shows will take place as it depends on government guidelines and advice,’ the insider said.

‘At the moment they would like them to happen in September, but that will entirely depend on how quickly things are back to normal.’

Meanwhile, Amanda Holden previously said that BGT being delayed was ‘for the best.’

‘I think that Ant and Dec did an amazing job of Takeaway on Saturday but I’m not sure our show, I think our show would suffer quite badly from not having a proper audience,’ she said on Heart Radio.

The long-time judge said that the live shows may air in the autumn, adding: ‘I would say it might be later than September but it’s quite a competitive time of year as well so, I’m hoping we can still strip it – strip means we do it every single day like we used to, or we might end up doing it over the weekends, but it’s all still in the running but I definitely think it’s for the best.’

She added: ‘Audition shows are definitely coming and they are better than ever, so I hope everyone loves that and can cheer up by watching that.’

The coronavirus lockdown has seen huge changes being made to programmes and scheduling, with the likes of Saturday Night Takeaway being filmed without a studio audience (although that certainly didn’t affect ratings as a record-breaking 11 million recently tuned in).

ITV also recently postponed the live episodes of The Voice.

Britain’s Got Talent returns 11 April 2020 at 8pm on ITV.
