Since Caleb Milligan (William Ash) arrived in Emmerdale on Christmas Day, the suave businessman has managed to embed himself in the village.
As well as being the brother of Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Chas (Lucy Pargeter), he’s impressed the rest of the Dingle family by willing to stand up for them whenever the need arises, and by his efforts to help Kyle (Huey Quinn) avoid a prison sentence by offering the help of his legal team.
Meanwhile Kim Tate (Claire King) has been won over by his business acumen and he’s in partnership with her at the stud farm.
Yet there’s always a sense that there are things we don’t yet know about Caleb Milligan, and one of those things is: does he have some connection with nanny-with-no-name Nicky (Lewis Cope)?
Nicky’s arrival at Home Farm seemed to be the answer to everyone’s prayers, as he never stopped smiling, was brilliant with kids and very quickly revealed other, ahem, talents to Gabby (Rosie Bentham) as they quickly got involved in a romantic relationship.
But there were a couple of other moments, such as when Nicky suddenly appeared at the Woolpack with Caleb as Sam (James Hooton) and Will (Dean Andrews) were having a confrontation, that made us wonder whether there was a connection between the two men.
You may be able to file this under what Lewis Cope recently called ‘the madness of what some people actually come up with’ as he discussed the fan theories about his character Nicky, but the fact remains that the nanny is undoubtedly keeping secrets. As Lewis himself said, ‘I think Nicky’s got a lot going on and maybe, with it being a soap, maybe there is more.’
That possible connection with Caleb could be about to rear its head again following Nicky’s recent proposal to Gabby after Kim discovered their relationship.
In upcoming episodes Caleb puts pressure on Nicky to name the date for his wedding to Gabby. But what business is it of Caleb’s?
Is he trying to drum up business for Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) at Take A Vow? Is he just an old softie at heart who loves a good wedding? Is he keen to get his best suit out of mothballs for a good old Emmerdale knees-up?
Or is he anxious for Nicky to cement his position with Gabby to further some scheme that he and Nicky are jointly pursuing?
