Here is everything you need to know about when the special show airs tonight, and what Brooker will be exploring.

What time is Charlie Brooker show on BBC Two tonight?

Charlie Brooker’s Antiviral Wipe will be airing on BBC Two tonight, May 14, at 9pm for a 45-minute slot.

He will be discussing the coronavirus pandemic itself, as well as his usual critiquing of what the public have been watching to keep themselves entertained.

Famous guests will be joining him, from a safe distance, as contributors including the well-known Philomena Cunk (Diane Morgan) and Barry Shitpeas (Al Campbell).

The comedy personas will be joining in with reviews of various TV shows and other forms of entertainment during the lockdown period.

The hilarious episode features footage from BBC News, including Boris Johnson’s daily briefings, and footage of what celebrities have been doing to raise money for the NHS heroes.

Speaking to GQ about how lockdown has been treating him, Brooker said: “Surprisingly well. And no one is more surprised than me. I’ve always feared something terrible happening, so when it happens, I don’t have to worry about the unknown any more.

“I was expecting to be spending a lot of time writing right around now anyway. And so, obviously, a lot of my job involves self-isolation, sitting in a room typing, so that hasn’t been a huge adjustment for me.

“Neither myself nor Konnie [Huq] really go out that often. At the weekends, we’d be sitting around indoors with the kids and we’d be feeling guilty that we hadn’t gone out to the park.”

His Screenwipe special, Antiviral Wipe, looks at the Government’s response to the coronavirus crisis and it was originally meant to feature TV shows people have been watching during lockdown.

However Brooker said the plan had changed after seeing how drastically the public responded to the Stay At Home message. The episode will now focus on how the public has been reacting to the latest updates.

Brooker has been tweeting about the special episode, which hopes to pull in loyal fans who are familiar with his work on Black Mirror and Screenwipe.

He said: “Hopefully tonight’s #AntiviralWipe will make you laugh at some point. If it doesn’t, switch it off and watch something that will, because YOU DESERVE A LAUGH. BBC2 9pm.”

The TV presenter and screenwriter created the sci-fi drama Black Mirror and presented a series of shows taking a satirical look at modern society.

His shows include Screenwipe, Gameswipe, Newswipe and Weekly Wipe, all of which follow the same format of critiquing the media and society as we know it.

Lockdown has been the most talked-about topic in the UK since it was announced towards the end of March, and there has been plenty of criticism.

Brooker is known for putting a hilarious spin on some of the darkest moments the nation has experienced, bringing some much-needed spirit.

Plenty of programmes have been introduced throughout the lockdown period to create some smiles during these unprecedented times, including the BBC’s Big Night In.

Other insightful series, such as Isolation Stories, give a realistic insight into what life is like for families from all walks of life staying at home.

Charlie Brooker’s Antiviral Wipe sits somewhere in between the two genres, informing the public of what decisions have been made by the Government so far, but telling the story in a comedic way.

Brooker had been creating a new Philomena Cunk series, but realised the show would not go ahead due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Instead, the BBC suggested another Wipe show but he was not keen on the idea to begin with.
