Cobra Kai season 3: Showrunner explains Aisha absence from new Netflix series ‘One day’

Cobra Kai: William Zabka stars in season three trailer

After almost two years without new episodes, Cobra Kai fans were treated to an all-new season of the martial arts drama on January 1 as Netflix dropped all 10 episodes of season three. While a number of series stalwarts made their returns, including Johnny Lawrence (played by William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), there was sadly no sign of former show regular Aisha (Nichole Brown).

However, Aisha’s absence isn’t one born out of bad blood but rather a character decision made by the showrunners.

Cobra Kai co-showrunner Jon Hurwitz explained the decision to leave actor Brown out of the season three cast – but hinted the door is still open to a return.

“We love Aisha and we love Nichole Brown,” Hurwitz began to TV Line.

“Certain characters we loved in season one didn’t appear at all in season two, like Kyler (Joe Seo), Yasmine (Annalisa Cochrane) and Louie (Bret Ernst).”

He continued: “Before the season, we told Nichole the same thing we told those actors: That just because a character doesn’t appear for a period of time doesn’t mean they’ve left the universe, that they can’t return again.

“We love that character, and perhaps we’ll see her again one day.”

Fans have had a while to prepare for Aisha’s absence, however, as actor Brown broke the news back in September 2019.

Following the news the series has been renewed and work was underway, Brown took to Instagram and penned a short message about the casting omission.

“Officially NOT in Season 3 of #CobraKai…” Brown shared on her Instagram Stories.

“Unfortunate, but thank you for the opportunity and time I had on the show.”

And despite the fair warning, a number of fans aren’t exactly pleased with how the season three premiere addressed Aisha’s exit – even if temporary.

In fact, some blasted the streaming service and series claiming Aisha “deserved” a better plot than was given to the character.

“WTF They wrote off Aisha?! #CobraKai,” vented one fan on Twitter.

A second echoed: “Aisha deserved a better storyline and y’all just cut her loose. I’m mad! #CobraKai.”

“Omg aisha is gone gone noooooo #CobraKai,” weighed in a third, with a fourth similarly sharing: “Man f**k Netflix for cutting Aisha out of season 3 #CobraKai.”

And a fifth expressed their disappointment: “Cobra Kai really be bringing everyone back… except Aisha. [cry emoji].”

Fans will have to keep their fingers crossed that Aisha may return in future seasons.

But given the fact the door remains open, it doesn’t look like Aisha’s time in Cobra Kai is done just yet.

And with season four already in the pipeline, it may be sooner rather than later.

Cobra Kai season 3 is available to stream on Netflix now.
