Coronation Street legend joins rival soap – putting an end to cobbles return hopes | The Sun

A CORONATION Street legend has dashed fans' hope of her returning to the cobbles as she lands a new role.

Wendi Peters has no plans to return to Weatherfield as it's been revealed she's joined rival soap opera Doctors.

The 54-year-old will play the role of a brand new doctor in the hit BBC One show from February.

She has already started filming at Leatherbridge’s famous Mill and will play Dr Nina Bulsara.

Teasing her character, the Beeb said Dr Bulsara will be a chatterbox who has an opinion on everything and everyone.

"She can be overbearing and inappropriate, but her cup is always half full and she’ll always find the positive in any difficulty or situation," they said.

Speaking about joining Doctors, Peters said: "I am thrilled to be joining the wonderful Doctors team to play Dr Nina Bulsara – a woman on a mission who always seems to get what she wants!"

The show's executive producer said they were "delighted" to welcome Wendi to the soap.

"She is a familiar face every soap fan will recognise, and we know she will be brilliant in this role," said Mike Hobson.

Wendi played the role of Cilla Battersby on Coronation Street between 2003 and 2007.

She was initially introduced to the show as Les Battersby's (Bruce Jones) new love interest.

Cilla, who is the mother of Fiz and Chesney, briefly returned in 2014 but has been absent from the cobbles since.

Last year Wendi shared a snap of her and Jayne Tunnicliffe together – 14 years after they stared together.

Doctors airs weekdays from 1:45pm on BBC One.
