Mary (played by Patti Clare) has been taking a backseat on Coronation Street of late, featuring in more comical scenes with the likes of Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) and Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher). At the same time, she has also been playing a background part in more serious storylines, trying to help Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) following sexual images of his teenage daughter Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) ending up online. The protective father is trying to do everything in his power to protect the youngster but sometimes approaches the subject with a hothead. However, next week’s episode of the ITV soap will see him hide a secret from his loved ones, but will super nanny Mary find out what he’s getting up to?
The no-nonsense gossip was the character who accompanied the teenager’s father to the police station when the images of her ended up on an adult entertainment site.
With the authorities unable to get involved, Dev has been paying to keep his daughter’s pictures offline, but it hasn’t stopped Asha and her twin brother Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) facing a backlash from their peers.
Episodes airing earlier this week saw the protective father pull his children out of Weatherfield High and enrol them in Oak Hill private school.
Although there was some opposition to begin with, once again Mary was on hand to support the family and the youngsters were won over.
However, this seems to be the start of a brutal new twist for the corner shop owner as he struggles to keep afloat, but will the super nanny be the one to uncover his sad secret?

- Coronation Street spoilers: Gemma Winter’s future on soap confirmed?
During Wednesday’s edition of the cobbles-based soap this week, viewers saw Dev sign his son Aadi up to do shifts at the kebab shop to try and help pay for his tuition fees.
This might have been a passing moment, but when he was discussing moving his children to a new school in the corner shop, loan shark Gary Windass (Mikey North) asked the father-of-two how he was affording it all.
It seems the character can’t as scenes airing next week sees him resort to desperate measures to try and avoid becoming bankrupt.
As Asha finally adopts a new approach to life and starts to see things more positively, it’s all celebrations in the Alahan household.
Wanting to celebrate this moment, Dev puts on a brave face and orders a takeaway for him, the twins and Mary.
As the others tuck into their food, it seems something is troubling the father-of-two as he is distracted.
It soon becomes clear this is just one of many recent payouts the soap character is unable to afford and with two businesses at stake, he needs a plan.
With his family enjoying their meals, the shop owner logs on to a quick loans company to try and help with his finances.

Viewers will have to wait and see if Dev can keep his money troubles a secret, but might Mary stumble across some incriminating evidence?
Although she no longer lives at the Alahan house, the super nanny still pops in to help make dinners and tidy up.
As the father-of-two starts to receive letters for repayments, the no-nonsense gossip could find out her neighbour is in debt.

Dev could find himself in far too deep and start to make sacrifices as a result, having to sell his shares in his businesses.
However, if he does confide in Mary, will she be able to keep the discovery to herself and not tell his children?
It seems Asha is one person the super nanny definitely wouldn’t tell, as actress Tanisha explained last year why the pair wouldn’t disclose their deepest, darkest secrets to each other.
The soap star said: “Asha is close to Mary but there’s too much of an age gap there, she feels like more of a grandmother figure.”
Coronation Street continues Friday at 7:30pm on ITV.
