Coronation Street’s Roy devastated as he meets dying brother for first time

Roy Cropper (David Neilsen) is set to discover a long lost family member in next week's episodes of Coronation Street.

The long standing character has had a number of family members introduced over his 14 years on the show, but he's set to get to new ones very soon.

Coronation Street spoilers have revealed that Roy's close pal and confidant Carla Connor (Alison King) gets on at him about his online Scrabble addiction.

But Roy leaves her dumbfounded when he confesses he has a suspicion that his Scrabble playing partner is actually his long-lost brother.

The café owner discovered that his mum Sylvia Goodwin (Stephanie Cole) had had an affair in the past, but Roy has been doing some research of his own since then.

He discovered that his mother had another son, Richard, however put him up for adoption.

Roy becomes worried when Richard suddenly vanishes halfway through a tense game of Scrabble and lets Carla know.

The concerned duo decide to do some investigating – but they aren't prepared for what they discover.

Roy confesses he has an address for Richard, so he and Carla decide to head on over to find out what's going on.

But when they get there, a young woman greets them at the door and doesn't let them in, saying she has no idea who this Richard is.

Roy is unable to take no for an answer though, so he and Carla go back a little later and are let in this time, but by a care worker.

The Weatherfield resident gears up to meet his long lost brother, but soon learns some devastating news.

Richard is terminally ill and suffering from pulmonary fibrosis.

And the young girl who turned Roy and Carla away is actually Richard's daughter Nina (Molly Gallagher).

The goth girl is unimpressed when she learns that the care worker allowed Roy and Carla in to see her dad.

Roy doesn't immediately let slip the truth about his identity, instead simply saying he's Richard's online playing partner.

But on a return visit, Roy confesses everything leaving both Richard and Nina stunned.

Carla tries to tell Nina that she'd be lucky to have Roy in her life, while he and his brother start to reconnect.

But will they be able to enjoy the last bit of their time together?

Coronation Street continues tonight with an hour-long episode at 7.30pm on ITV
