Coronation Street’s Yasmeen’s trial in danger as soap scraps all court location filming – The Sun

CORONATION Street's Yasmeen Nazir's attempted murder trial is in jeopardy after the soap banned location shoots.

The abuse survivor – who is played by actress Shelley King in the ITV soap – is in prison awaiting trial for stabbing controlling husband Geoff Metcalfe in self-defence.

Viewers watched on screen this week as she plead not guilty – but now her trial itself is in danger with the soap unable to film in the court room on location.

Soap producer Iain revealed the show had been forced to pull all location filming with immediate effect – and re-work storylines to fit in with how they can now be filmed.

And that includes on-going storylines like Yasmeen Nazir's attempted murder trial where she will face up to abusive husband Geoff Metcalfe.

Iain said: "Well the short answer to that one is location filming is suspended indefinitely.

"Our reasoning behind that is essentially we know the emergencies we put in place on site are rigorous and enforceable.

"We have a sanitisation chain for every single item that arrives on set. So we’ve got it all really nailed down to the point where I feel we can really minimise the risks for everyone in the building as much as we possibly can.

"We just felt it was so much safer to keep things on site, for the sake of everybody’s security."

Head of continuing drama John Whiston teased the soap could even build its own court room if it had to.

He added: "What’s fantastic is, obviously we have our own craft shops and design departments.

"So if there is something that we might have done off site, we could just build it. So if we need a courtroom and I’m not saying we do, then we can just build one.

"We’ve got a fantastic street and the extensions in the street as well."

* Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights on ITV at 7.30pm
