Could Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, be first ever royal to appear on Strictly Come Dancing?

Strictly Come Dancing has seen some pretty big names take to its illustrious dancefloor over the years. But could the hit BBC show be about to sign up a senior royal?

In a recent interview, Strictly host Tess Daly dropped a rather large hint that the Duchess of Cornwall – more informally known as Camilla – could well be lined up as a contestant on the new series.

Strictly Come Dancing is no stranger to aristocracy as the 2019 series saw the 8th Marquess of Bath, Viscountess Emma Weymouth, compete. Partnered with the popular Slovenian dance professional Aljaz Skorjanec, Emma lasted until week seven of the show. But this year could be in for an even bigger name.

Camilla is known to be a huge fan of the dancing show. In an interview with Tatler magazine, Tess revealed to readers that she knows Prince Charles' wife because of her role as Ambassador for The Prince’s Trust.

Tess said: “Camilla has a great sense of humour and is so down-to-earth. She's a huge fan of Strictly and told us how much she enjoys it.

"We'd love to have her on the show. She's friends with Craig Revel Horwood so maybe I'll ask him to have a word!”

The Duchess of Cornwall has danced with a couple of the Strictly judges before, in actual fact. At last year’s 90th anniversary of the British Dance Council, she and former head judge Len Goodman danced together briefly. She told reporters at the time: “I have a granddaughter who is passionate about it, maybe we’ll see her one day dancing about on Strictly – who knows?”

Camilla has visited the Strictly set before too, having taken a turn around the Strictly dancefloor with her friend Craig. She’s also shown off her dancing skills as recently as last week when she was spotted laying down some moves during a visit to the Royal Voluntary Service.

Another famous royal has also been linked with a place on the show. Lady Kitty Spencer was seen in the audience last year, cheering on her close pal Emma as she performed a stunning Viennese Waltz and there are rumours abound that she is being sized up by Strictly producers.
