Did Simpsons 'predict' yet another US election development?

Has The Simpsons made yet another eerie prediction about the world? Fans have been left speechless by what appeared to be another example of the show knowing our future this week.

Earlier this week we all had a chuckle at the Fox show’s ‘prediction’ of what may happen if you don’t vote (don’t worry – it’s not happened…yet), now fans have been left shocked by an eight-year-old clip that showed a bunch of red and blue states split in the US.

As we eagerly await the final results of the presidential election, with neither Donald Trump nor Joe Biden having reached the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House (yet), Simpsons fans unearthed a clip of Mr Burns endorsing Mitt Romney in 2012.

The short clip put together by the animated series – which saw its 31st season land on Disney Plus in the UK today – saw the malevolent millionaire share his choice for president, as he went up against Barack Obama, who ended up winning a second term, quipping: ‘There’s only one thing that may deny us the presidency, which is the God-given property of the Republication party.’

He then walks over to a large board that has the split of blue and red states in America – a familiar sight we’ve been witnessing since Tuesday.

What has floored many a fan though, is the wild likeness the board shares with the current state split between the Democratic and Republican parties.

As many suggested the Simpsons had ‘done it again’ one wrote: ‘Bro the Simpsons really do predict everything.’

Others were amazed that seemingly the show had only managed to get Arizona wrong, which Biden is currently leading in.

Suppose this is where we sort of add the massive ‘but’ to this whole bewildering situation for some, seeing as most states stick to being a ‘blue’ (that is, Democratic) and ‘red’ (Republican) state for most elections.

Also, this same clip was doing the rounds in 2016 when Trump was first elected – with people suggesting the show predicted that through the map as well.

As many other fans pointed out, the states that are blue and the states that are red are historically often going to be those colours, meaning it’s not such a stretch for the clip from 2012 to mimic the breakdown of states again this week.

One wrote on Twitter: ‘I mean its pretty simple to predict sometimes which of them are liberal or conservative states, i dont blame the simpsons for doing good research.’

Another ruined our parade by sharing: ‘You mean the Simpsons predicted that the states that usually vote blue would vote blue and the states that usually vote red were projected to vote red?? Let me act shocked

It’s still fun to look at the likeness and believe this show is pretty great with the whole foretelling thing though.

After all, they did predict Donald Trump would become president.

The Simpsons is available on Disney Plus.
