Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is rumoured to feature lots of big cameos from non-MCU superheroes played by stars in Fox and Sony movies. Aside from the likes of the X-Men, the Fantastic Four are set to be rebooted by Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts in the next couple of years, but that doesn’t mean variants of Marvel’s First Family won’t show up first. Ian Gruffudd and Miles Teller played Mr Fantastic in the Fox movies, but now insiders are claiming another big star will play Reed Richards in Doctor Strange 2.

Last week, Beyond the Trailer’s Grace Randolph, tweeted that a test-screening of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had taken place with “LOTS of major awesome cameos.”

But then added: “One cameo is so amazing – fan dream come true – I know it’s gonna leak which is [sad]. This is a cameo NOBODY has reported yet.”

However, numerous outlets have already started naming a big US film and TV star as portraying Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards in Doctor Strange 2.

WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS FOR DOCTOR STRANGE 2 AHEAD.

As always take with a pinch of salt, but The Illuminerdi report that The Office and A Quiet Place’s John Krasinski is playing a variant of Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

This was backed up by respected MCU leaker MyTimeToShineHello who tweeted: “John Krasinski is playing Mr Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” A fan asked for clarification, “Just a variant or is he gonna play the MCU version in the future projects?”, which was clarified with “a variant”.

If true, this would mean that Krasinski’s take on the Fantastic Four character would be separate to the Reed Richards in the upcoming Jon Watts reboot movie.

This comes on top of previous rumours of Marvel Comics’ Illuminati playing a role in Doctor Strange 2.

In the comics, The Illuminati are a secret superhero group that works behind the scenes.

The original line-up included Doctor Strange, Mr Fantastic, Iron Man, Black Bolt the King of the Inhumans, Professor Charles Xavier and Namor the King of Atlantis.

Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor X is already rumoured to feature as a variant in the Multiverse of Madness, as is Black Bolt, although it’s not clear if it will be Anson Mount reprising his role from the ill-fated Inhumans TV show.

Additionally, it’s been reported that Namor team-up with these other big brains of Marvel. And even Tom Cruise’s name has been thrown around as an Iron Man variant, but as said, all this should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Whatever the case, Krasinski playing Mr Fantastic would be another sign of Marvel Studios listening to fan-casting. As far back as WandaVision, some thought Monica Rambeau was referencing him as Reed Richards when she mentioned an engineer before this was later debunked.

Krasinski is married to Hollywood star Emily Blunt, who many fans would love to see play Mrs Fantastic Sue Storm aka The Invisible Woman opposite him.

After Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield showed up in Spider-Man: No Way Home it just feels like anything is possible for the Marvel multiverse now.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is released in cinemas on May 6, 2022.
