Emmerdale spoilers: Kirin Kotecha’s return ‘revealed’ in Johnny Woodfield custody battle

Emmerdale fans were distraught to learn Vanessa Woodfield (played by Michelle Hardwick) was suffering silently with bowel cancer earlier this year. After attending several doctor appointments it was confirmed she had stage three of the disease, but the outlook looked positive. However, the village vet is still making arrangements should anything happen to her, one of those being the care of her son Johnny. Could this spark a return from Kirin Kotecha (Adam Fielding) – Johnny’s biological father?

Back in 2014, fans of the popular ITV soap will remember Kirin arriving in the village after his father Rakesh Kotecha (Pasha Bocarie) invited him to stay with him and wife-to-be Priya Sharma (Fiona Wade).

Before arriving he had a one-night-stand with Vanessa, with whom he lied about his age.

Understandably, Vanessa was shocked when she bumped into him and was even more disgusted when she learnt he was only 17-years-old.

In a heated confrontation, Vanessa called Kirin out on his lie, but he managed to charm her and they decided to continue their relationship despite their 21 year age gap.

However, it wasn’t long before they were caught by Priya who demanded they end their secret affair.

While Vanessa agreed, Kirin refused and following an argument with his family, moved out and moved into Vanessa’s cottage.

After claiming he was in love with Vanessa and no longer had aspirations to go to university and study, Vanessa was worried, but when Kirin found a lump in Vanessa’s breast, they put their concerns about the future aside.

Having booked a hospital appointment, Vanessa was left disappointed when he failed to turn up and they did break up briefly.

When Vanessa got her results back – which were negative – she and Kirin reunited but not long after, she told him she was pregnant.

Kirin’s father was furious and extremely worried at the prospect of his teenage son becoming a father, but the table turned when Vanessa revealed she had a different one-night-stand with Adam Barton while she and Kirin were on a break, with the possibility of him being the baby’s father.

To be sure, viewers will remember Vanessa taking a DNA test which confirmed Kirin was the child’s biological father, but Rakesh saw an opportunity when the results arrived to intercept them and edit them.

After seeing the fake results, Kirin left Vanessa and they remained on friendly terms, but a couple of years later, after spotting a birthmark on Johnny’s neck she reordered a new DNA test and in January 2016, Vanessa contacted Kirin to tell him the news.

A few months later, everything got too overwhelming for the young man and he fled the country, relocating to South America.

But in recent scenes of Emmerdale, Vanessa has been seeking legal advice ensuring plans are put in place should she not survive bowel cancer and Johnny’s guardianship has been on the top of her agenda.

Fans would’ve thought Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) would’ve automatically been the one to look after Johnny should the outcome not be positive.

But they were surprised to see Vanessa sitting down with best friend Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) where she asked her former colleague if she would consider being Johnny’s legal guardian.

According to official soap spoilers, Charity’s fury and Vanessa’s decision is going to last a while longer as she will be seen marching into the HOP office next week.

Interrupting Priya, she will demand information on Rakesh and Kirin, but Priya has no idea of their whereabouts.

In the bid to track them down, does this mean there is a return on the cards for Kirin?

Emmerdale airs Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 7pm on ITV.
