Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) and Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) certainly have strong feelings for one another. The Emmerdale characters seem determined to make their relationship work, but they keep being hit with setbacks caused by conniving characters. Despite the complications, Billy is set to get on one knee and propose to Dawn in upcoming scenes – does this mean the couple will leave the ITV soap together?
Evil Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu) recently broke the news to Billy she’s pregnant with his child in a desperate bid to keep him close to her.
Billy – who has no idea she’s actually lying about the pregnancy – decided to be honest to Dawn about it, and to his surprise, she was still determined to make their relationship work.
Meena’s meddling continues this week when she manages to convince Dawn’s drug-addict ex Alex (Liam Boyle) to visit her.
Alex is the father of Dawn’s son Lucas (Dexter Ansell) and looks due to go to great lengths to make her lose custody of the youngster.
Billy actor Jay opened up to Express.co.uk and other publications about Billy and Dawn rekindling their romance on the ITV soap.
Earlier this week, Emmerdale fans watched on as Billy stuck up for Dawn as she got into an altercation with Alex.
Jay explained: “Billy tried to intervene and he stuck up for Dawn as he does really love her.
“I see it like the Ross and Rachel thing on Friends – will they get back together? They are torn between who will take the first step in trying to make it work again.”
Jay described the moment Meena told Billy she was carrying his unborn child as “a foot in the grave” for his Emmerdale character.
He said: “He’s a family man and he needs to be there for his kid so that’s thrown a spanner in the works and he’s in a position where he might lose Dawn completely.”
Luckily, an understanding Dawn reassured Billy she wanted to make their relationship work despite the pregnancy bombshell.
With their feelings growing stronger by the minute, Jay revealed Billy will propose to Dawn on New Year’s Eve.
The 31-year-old actor said the proposal was purely “spontaneous” and was not planned for New Year’s Eve.
He said: “It couldn’t have come at a better time and it’s a lovely moment.
“It’s a New Year, a new start and a new beginning to Billy and Dawn and it was just done on a whim.
“But he thought it could be a fresh start for the two of them. It was quite emotional, but it was nice.”
If Dawn agrees to marry Billy, will they decide to flee the village with Lucas and start a new life together away from Emmerdale?
Or will she turn him down as she knows he’s got a child on the way with his ex Meena?
Viewers will have to wait a little longer to find out how the proposal goes down for the couple.
Emmerdale airs on ITV at 7pm on weekdays.
