Escape to the Chateau’s Dick and Angel transform ‘unloved’ part of home into ‘stunning’ new space | The Sun

ESCAPE to the Chateau stars Dick and Angel Strawbridge have transformed an “unloved” part of their home into a magnificent “feature” space after a quick bit of DIY.

In collaboration with Homebase, the couple set about tiling an unused part of their 19th century French chateau to give it a new lease on life.

The couple document their renovation in a video for Homebase.

At the start of the ad, Dick pointed out that when it comes to tiles, most people limit them to the bathroom or kitchen.

“But with a bit of ingenuity, you can use them throughout your home for small details to key feature walls,” Angel interjected.

So the couple decided to create a large feature area around the large windows in their chateau.

Angel noted that tiling this area of their home has turned a space that was a “little unloved” into something “frankly stunning”.

Dick took charge of their DIY project, first prepping and sanding down the walls. Then he set about finding the middle of the small space they’d chosen so that the tiles would be “uniform.”

“The key to any good feature wall is your choice of design,” added Angel, who opted for a blush coloured tile.

Angel gushed that she’s “completely in love” with the tiles she’s chosen, which had a dark pink diagonal section across them.

Dick then applied an adhesive to the wall before he started titling.

It’s normal for the application to look messy and Dick warned anyone following along at home shouldn’t worry about the finish at this stage.

He explained: “It’s much more about getting it in there because we’ll finish it off with a damp sponge and that will allow us to have a smooth grout finish.

“There’ll be a final buff up at the end when it’s all dry but I don’t want to leave lots of grout on here.”
