Giovanni Pernice breaks silence after Amanda Abbington quits Strictly

Giovanni Pernice has broken his silence after it was revealed his partner Amanda Abbington had withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing.

Posting on his Instagram page, he shared a tribute to the Sherlock actor which included a snap of him and Amanda in pyjamas backstage.

He penned: "Amanda .. I am so sad we can’t continue but I am proud of what we achieved and I am sending you so much love @amanda_abbington74 @bbcstrictly."

Fan rushed to comment on his touching post, with one writing: "Strictly won't be the same this season."

Another fan added: "This is so sad to read. You two were amazing together & were the so lovely to watch each week. Thank you for the routines you gave us. Amanda I hope you are OK & feel better soon. Sending you both all the love xx."


A third continued: "I'm so sad, you two were my favs, I hope everything is okay w her."

It Takes Two host Fleur East confirmed Amanda would not be returning to Strictly Come Dancing.

Reading a statement from a BBC spokesperson, she said: Amanda Abbington is unable to continue in Strictly Come Dancing and has decided to withdraw from the competition. The show wishes her all the best for the future.”

It comes after Amanda was forced to miss Saturday night's show due to "medical reasons".

Speaking on the live show, host Claudia Winkleman explained: "Now as you may have noticed, Amanda and Giovanni are missing from the lineup. Due to medical reasons Amanda is unable to perform this week.


"Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, Amanda and Giovanni will return the following week. Amanda we hope you get well soon my love, sending you all the best wishes!"

Amanda has yet to comment on her exit but her fiancé Jonathan Goodwin shared a cryptic post on his Instagram page before the news was announced.

In a photo uploaded to his Instagram Story, he can be seen in a black jumper and jeans taking a selfie in the mirror.

He captioned the shot: "We can be so hard on ourselves…be our own worst critics…

"But before you judge yourself… make sure your mirror is clean."
