Great British Bake Off 2020: Fans rage over ‘impossible’ technical challenge

Great British Bake Off fans were left raging as the contestants were given an ‘impossible’ technical challenge in dessert week.

With a place in next week’s semi-final at stake, Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith were never going to make it easy for the bakers to get there.

However, those watching on from home weren’t impressed when Prue set the task of making two Sussex pond puddings for the technical challenge.

They were asked to dish up a suet pastry, filled with an entire lemon, and served with a creme anglaise – all within two-and-a-half hours.

Marc, Peter, Hermine, David and Laura were left scratching their heads at the steamed pudding, which the judge announced was one of her ultimate favourites.

Things got even worse for the gang when they were informed that they wouldn’t have time to restart their creations, which meant there was no room for error.

Every amateur baker struggled under the pressure, with many serving up raw, uncooked pastry.

Laura eventually won the round, but Prue insisted that hers was ‘barely better’ than everyone else’s.

Viewers were baffled by the task, with some stating that the challenge was ‘impossible’ – as no one was given enough time.

Flocking to Twitter, a follower moaned: ‘Little bit behind on #GBBO but surely if they are all raw, they weren’t given enough time to actually steam it!!??’
