Danny Dyer says if you don’t like dark drama, don’t watch his new show
Channel 5 drama Heat unfolds to the backdrop of the looming Australian bushfire season when two families who are long-time friends, venture to a secluded home for a summer vacation.
Steve and Brad have been best friends since their bachelor days in the UK, both emigrating to Australia where they met their wives.
For nearly 20 years, the men and their families have reunited for an annual summer holiday, this time at Brad’s recently built dream home for his wife Louise and son Kip in the Victorian highlands.
Steve and wife Sarah, and teenage children, Mia and Tom, are impressed and while the reunion is a warm one, tensions quickly simmer under the surface.
Steve is hiding something, and Mia suspects he has been unfaithful. However, Sarah is the one harbouring a secret and Brad has an even bigger one he is hiding.

Who is in the cast of Heat episode 1?
Danny Dyer plays Steve Cameron
Steve is a “loving husband, protective father and loyal friend” who married Australian born Sarah before they moved to her home country.
Like many young adults, they had hopes of a prosperous future, but over the years, a slight complacency set in for Steve.
He’s always put food on the table and tried to instil strong values in his kids, but he’s not exactly a go-getter.
Over the years he and Sarah have drifted apart as Steve realised his wife wanted more than he can give.
Steve is played by former EastEnders star Danny Dyer, who is best known for his role as Mick Carter.
Danny has also appeared in The Football Factory, and has hosted The Wall and Scared of the Dark.
Pia Miranda plays Sarah Cameron
Now in her 40’s, Sarah has always been the good wife, the good mother and the good friend. She’s been the responsible one in every aspect of her life… until now.
Sarah took a few years off from her nursing career to raise Mia and Tom, now 17 and 14 respectively while Steve continued to work in insurance, always doing his best for the family.
But with Sydney’s high cost of living, it hasn’t always been easy. From the outside, Sarah never complained or wanted for more. But appearances can be deceiving.
Pia, 50, is an Australian actress who has starred in Wentworth, Channel 5 drama Riptide, Neighbours and most recently, Aunty Donna’s Coffee Cafe.

Darren McMullen plays Brad Fisher
Brad has been married to his wife Louise since their early twenties and they now have a son, Kip.
Over the years Brad has fallen out of love with his wife and wasn’t too bothered about drifting apart until recently.
Brad misses her companionship, and she rarely challenges him on anything. As a result, he has built himself a double life.
Darren McMullen is a Scottish-Australian actor who is best known for being co-host of The Voice Australia.
He also appeared The Celebrity Apprentice: Australia and on The Real Love Boat Australia.
Jane Allsop plays Louise Fisher
Louise is a woman who appears to have it all and she works very hard at giving that impression but scratch the surface and things might not be as perfect as they seem.
A recent move from inner Melbourne to a sprawling property in Victoria’s high country has left her feeling isolated in more ways than one.
If you asked her, she’d say everything is wonderful and she has her dream home. But if she’s honest with herself, it’s Brad’s dream more than hers.
Jane Allsop, 48, is best known for her role as Jo Parrish in Blue Heelers. She has been married to David Serafin since 2014 and the couple have two children.
Matia Marks plays Mia Cameron
Outspoken, rebellious and in the throes of young love, 17-year-old Mia is not exactly eager to be on this family holiday.
It’s more accurate to say she’s been dragged there by her parents Sarah and Steve, and she won’t be playing happy famil Matia has only made a number of TV appearances including The InBESTigators and In Halves.
Richie Morris plays Jet Calloway
Early to mid-twenties, Jet’s a bad boy with a heart of gold. He’s in a relationship with teenage rebel Mia, whose parents have forbidden her from seeing him.
But their love is so strong that he secretly visits her on a family trip – and ends up stuck with them due to country bushfires. If they weren’t fond of him before, they certainly aren’t now… Richie is best known for his role as Levi Canning in Neighbours between 2020 and 2022.
Matteo Annetta plays Tom Cameron
On the surface a shy, introverted teenager, 15-year-old Tom is a lot more switched on than he seems.
When he arrives at the family holiday sporting a broken arm, he can feel the tension in the air and decides to do everything he can to keep the peace. Heat is Matteo’s second role having starred as Jacob in House Husbands between 2012 and 2013.
Hunter Hayden plays Kip Fisher
A natural born charmer with a mischievous streak, 15-year-old Kip’s favourite part of his family’s summer tradition is messing with strait-laced family friend Tom.
But with tensions running high this year, Kip’s troublemaking could push everyone over the edge.
Not much is known about Hunter as this is one of their first roles on TV.
Heat airs on Channel 5 from Tuesday-Friday at 9pm.
