Holly Willoughby nearly swears during spider segment as uneasy fans turn off their TVs

Holly Willoughby nearly swore during a spider segment on Wednesday's This Morning while "uneasy" fans at home turned off their television screens during the scenes.

During the latest instalment, the ITV chat show decided to look at why people are scared of spiders and how to "spider proof" your home for the winter season.

The segment included experts even bringing real spiders onto the show, including a tarantula called Rosie, but it was one feature that left viewers switching off their screens.

Several times during the scenes, pretend spiders would crawl across the TV screen as a special effects feature but it left viewers thinking they were real.

Taking to Twitter, one person said: "#ThisMorning just nearly smashed my TV when that spider ran across the TV. Aahhhh another one. Stop it!"

A different account put: "Ok can we stop putting spiders across the tv screen.. #ThisMorning!"

Another viewer wrote: "Switch off time. #thismorning!"

While another show watcher added: "Whose daft idea was it to have the “spiders” running across the screen? Any phobic person who could have been helped by this section will have turned over! #ThisMorning."

Elsewhere during the segment, Phillip Schofield decided to play a prank on Holly as he pretended that there was a spider on the sofa as she leapt up in fear and nearly swore.

Phillip said: "Oh, how did that one get out?" to which Holly jumped up in panic from the sofa as he added while laughing: "Too easy!'

While Holly replied: "You little!" to which her giggling co-host pointed out: "I'm amazed you didn't swear!"

With Holly admitting: "Well, it was very close!"

Later in the show, the Speakmans appeared for a segment on how to help people cure their phobia of spiders as they listened to viewers calling in.

This Morning continues on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
