Hollyoaks Cindy star Steph Waring emotional as she opens up on co-stars exit

Hollyoaks star Steph Waring has revealed that filming Gary Lucy's exit scenes was one of the hardest days at work she's ever had.

The 43-year-old actress has played Cindy Cunningham in the Channel 4 soap since 1996 and has been involved in some of the show's biggest storylines.

However, she's revealed that filming Luke Morgan's death scenes were the most difficult to date.

Speaking to Daily Star, Steph explained: "It was one of the hardest days filming I've had.

"I've lost partners in the show, and friends I've worked with for years have left the show, but but filming Gary Lucy's exit was the most emotional drained that I've ever been.

"I miss him so much to the point I can't talk about it.

"The day saying goodbye wasn't just hard for me but for all of us."

Cindy and Luke head to Mallorca next week with a few of their nearest and dearest for some pre-wedding celebrations.

Fans of the show will know that Luke was diagnosed with battling Frontotemporal dementia, known as FTD, almost three years ago.

The holiday is full of highs and lows, but tragedy strikes at sunset as the final chapter of Luke Morgan takes place.

Soap spoilers have revealed that Cindy's family begin to worry about her in the aftermath of Luke's passing.

Her behaviour is particularly alarming when she puts on her wedding dress and insists on opening the burger stall.

Opening up about how Cindy's deals with Luke's passing, Steph said: "She's been grieving for Luke for so long and she always knew this day would come but because it's taken away from her so quickly and suddenly.

"I don't think she knows how to process it at this point."

As Cindy bids farewell to another partner, Steph went on to share what she'd like to see next for her character.

"I don't think she needs a man," she said.

"She needs some good friends around her and I want her to put her heels on and be the be the bad b***h she's always been."

Actor Gary has played Luke Morgan on and off since 1999.

Hollyoaks now streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and at 7pm on E4
