As the search for Jeopardy!’s new permanent host continues, many fans of the beloved game show now wholeheartedly believe Jeopardy! champion Buzzy Cohen is the man for the job.
Ahead of Jeopardy! season 38 premiering on September 13, the ABC quiz show shared a throwback photo on Instagram of the 2021 Tournament of Champions, which originally aired in mid-May. Guest hosted by Buzzy, the 2017 ToC winner, the special two-week event featured an elite group of Jeopardy! champions who competed for the grand prize of $250,000. In the end, Minnesota-based teacher Sam Kavanaugh was crowned the latest ToC winner.
After seeing the pic on social media, folks were immediately reminded of Buzzy’s hosting skills and began calling for him to step up to the lectern permanently and become Alex Trebek’s official successor.

“Buzzy Cohen is nothing short of fabulous at hosting Jeopardy! — especially during the Tournament of Champions! Now, let’s make him permanent host [of] the show!” one person wrote. “JUST PICK BUZZY,” another added. “Buzzy is obviously the one for permanent host!!! 😍,” a different person said. “Come on Jeopardy, @jeopardy @sonypictures, how can you not see that @buzzycohenofficial is the best choice to host!?! Make it happen!!” a follower commented.
Of course, Buzzy has always had his supporters who have rooted for him to be awarded the hosting gig. But over the last few months on social media, many appeared to be more vocal about giving the job to Reading Rainbow‘s LeVar Burton, a fan favorite among viewers and celebrities alike.
Buzzy and LeVar were two of the 15 guest hosts who helped honor Alex’s legacy during season 37. After cycling through many guest hosts, former executive producer and guest host Mike Richards was officially named the permanent new host of Jeopardy! and Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik was tapped to host primetime specials. But after only one day of filming, Mike stepped down from the hosting role and, subsequently, from his executive producer role at the game show following several controversies.
Now, Mayim is taking the lead while the show continues its search for a permanent host. While there’s word that a new guest host lineup is in the works, many fans seem to want to give Buzzy another shot at the lectern. We’ll just have to keep tuning in to see if he’ll get the coveted job or not.
