John Legend Named People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive 2019

Former “Sexiest Man Alive” Blake Shelton had a special treat for his fellow “Voice” coach as he made the announcement live during their show.

"The Voice" is on a winning streak, but it’s the coaches who are getting all the accolades as John Legend becomes the third to wear the title of People magazine’s sexiest man alive.

Following on the heels of original coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, Legend was declared the 2019 recipient of the magazine’s annual honor. And it’s an honor the crooner says is both exciting and scary.

"It’s a lot of pressure," the EGOT winner told the outlet. "Everyone’s going to be picking me apart to see if I’m sexy enough to hold this title."

But that wasn’t the only pressure the 40-year-old was feeling. "I’m [also] following Idris Elba, which is not fair and is not nice to me!" he joked, referring to last year’s honoree.

As a former "Sexiest Man Alive" himself, Shelton was given the honor of publicly announcing Legend’s latest accolade, doing it from their side-by-side rotating chairs during the first live eviction episode of "The Voice."

"Ladies and gentlemen, the man, the myth, the Legend," Shelton proclaimed, pointing to his fellow coach before revealing the cover. But Shelton wasn’t even done there.

"You already came into this show with an EGOT," he told Legend. "And then you won ‘The Voice,’ so it became a VEGOT. He then unfolded a pair of cut-off jean shorts with Legend’s newest acronym plastered across the butt in giant sparkly letters: VEGOTSMA.

How long before Chrissy Teigen either forces her husband into those jeans for their social media, or wears them herself? Legend did say that he was excited to have "finally" impressed his wife, saying that she hadn’t even made fun of him for this win … at least, not yet.

Shelton, though, wasn’t so lucky as People also reported that his girlfriend and fellow coach Gwen Stefani decided to help him celebrate Legend’s win by plastering an oversized image of his cover on Shelton’s trailer.

In a video posted to Stefani’s Instagram Stories, Shelton took it in stride, though, laughing and calling Legend his "protege."
