Laurence Fox says it’s racist to call him privileged white male in TV row

Things got heated on BBC's Question Time last night.

Actor Laurence Fox was seen in a spat with one guest as they discussed whether the recent drama surrounding Meghan Markle stepping back from her royal title was racist.

The guest was seen saying: "Meghan has agreed to be Harry's wife, and then the press has torn her to pieces.

"Let's be really clear about what this is, let's call it by it's name, it's racism.

"She's a black woman, and she has been torn to pieces."

But he continued: "We're the most tolerant, lovely country in Europe, it's not racism.

"It's so easy to throw the term racism at everybody and it's really starting to get boring now. "

The guest replied: "What really worries me about your comment is, you are a white privileged male…"

As the clip circulated online, social media users were divided about whose side they were on.

One wrote on Twitter: "This is my good friend @RachelCBoyle1, university lecturer, and she absolutely nails this point. Well done Rach."

Another added: "Oh my God. His lack of self awareness is astonishing."

However another defended Laurence saying: "She was trying to shame him and attempted to use his colour to prove her point. She was wrong to do that.

A second added: "He is correct."
