Love Island bosses have slammed ‘irresponsible’ viewers after many took to social media to discuss the islanders’ weight gain.
Over the course of the 2019 series, viewers have felt they have seen a change in the islanders’ weight – which makes sense considering they’re mostly sunbathing and eating for eight weeks straight.
Reports out of the villa have also claimed that Curtis Pritchard requested new clothes with sources alleging that the 23-year-old was ‘struggling to fit into’ the clothes he took with him to the island.
But a spokesperson for the ITV2 show has now offered a statement and called on fans to be mindful of what they share online.
‘It is incredibly irresponsible that any Islander would be body-shamed in this way and we would always discourage anyone from making appearance-based comments that could be hurtful to the islanders and their families,’ the spokesperson told Metro.co.uk.
‘It is astonishing that there have been calls for body diversity yet an islander who has allegedly put on weight is now being trolled because of it.’
Viewers had shared various tweets in recent weeks which included comments aimed at Curtis in particular.
‘The nearest the show have got all series to body diversity amongst the contestants has been the weight gain on Curtis,’ shared a viewer while another suggested he ‘gained relationship weight’.
Others praised the weight gain, with tweets such as ‘even Amber looks fuller but it looks good on her’ being sent.
