Joining presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, ex-Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Kevin Clifton spoke about his debut in the West End playing Stacee Jaxx in Rock of Ages. The pro dancer spoke about his excitement for the production and how it was a passion of his when he was younger. Later in the chat, he then joined his co-stars for a live performance which left viewers “cringing”.
This year the legendary rock musical Rock of Ages set off on tour again, with Strictly’s Kevin returning as the wild Stacee Jaxx.
The Tour began on August 19 at the Alexandra, Birmingham but Kevin will be joining the cast from September 13 at the Liverpool Empire.
He joined Ruth and Eammon on This Morning to discuss his participation in the show, his love for the show and an unlikely coincidence with girlfriend Stacey Dooley.
Kevin explained that he had always been into rock music when he was younger and even took up an “emo” look, trying to look like his favourite rock stars.
He also explained that he was excited to do the show because it was something different from Strictly, and had such a good time on tour before.
Talk also turned to his girlfriend Stacey Dooley, saying his characters name had an unlikely coincidence to her name.
Kevin’s characters name is Stacee Jaxx, and he explained that his girlfriend’s full name is Stacey Jaclyn Dooley, which shocked both Ruth and Eamonn as they laughed with Kevin.
After the interview was over, Kevin ran off over to his co-stars to give the viewers a sneak peek into what they can expect when seeing the show.
However, a lot of fans were not impressed by the performance, with a lot of them taking to social media to express their opinion.
One user wrote: “Ears are bleeding watching Rock of Ages on #ThisMorning a good song ruined.”
Another added: “Had the TV on in the background, and I just hear people screaming…? What is going on #ThisMorning.”
“And here’s your daily dose of cringeeeeeee,” a third user expressed.

“I wanted to see this but not so sure now they needs to get good singers for rock songs #thismorning.” (sic)
Some viewers did try to back up the performance, however, with one writing: “Sometimes theatre just doesn’t translate very well on live TV, I’m sure it sounds great in the right settings #ThisMorning.”
“I have seen this show first hand in theatre and thoroughly enjoyed! They all sounded great, just unfortunate about the studio sounds #thismorning.”
Agreeing with these comments, another user replied: “100% agree! People need to stop judging people for following their passions, he is having the time of his life, let him be #thismorning.”
Commenting on his return to the show, Kevin told Derbyshire Live: “I feel like I’m switching roles from Strictly, as there I’m in my comfort zone, I’m the professional and Stacey is the celebrity trying to learn to dance whereas now I’m figuratively and literally becoming Stacee!
“I’m a big fan! I’ve always been a massive rock fan anyway, and before I was on Strictly, I used to fancy myself a bit of a rock star.
“I used to have long black hair and eye makeup and black fingernails and used to swan about thinking I was the Jim Morrison of the ballroom!”
A Rock of Ages producer added: “We are delighted Kevin will be back as Stacee Jaxx, he has wowed us and audiences with his superb singing voice, and we can’t wait for him to be part of our exiting show once again.”
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
