Martine McCutcheon announces return to music after five years

Martine McCutcheon has announced that she’s working on her first album in five years.

The former EastEnders star, who scored a UK number one with her cover of the song Perfect Moment in 1999, and a number two debut album, is hard at work.

She released her last record, Lost And Found in 2017.

Martine, 46, explained that teaming up with her husband Jack McManus for a song on the soundtrack to the film Fisherman’s Friends: One And All inspired her to return to music.

‘The last album I did was more rocky and a little bit darker really just because that’s where I was at that time in my life and I did it for me, and it just happened to be signed so I was really thrilled when it did well,’ she explained.

The actress added to The Sun: ‘I just want to do what I love, which is a real mixture, singing songs that need a voice to sing them, beautiful lyrics, beautiful melodies, gorgeous production.

‘I just want to do great songs and we’ll see what they end up being. I definitely want to perform in front of live audiences again. This full on project of the album will probably be taking up a lot of this year.’

Martine has had a tough time of it recently, following the heartbreaking death of her brother Laurence John.

Taking to Instagram to share the sad news, McCutcheon wrote: ‘My heart is forever broken…

‘My baby brother, my gentle giant, sadly passed away, suddenly, 2 weeks ago. He was 31 years old.

‘There is no medical explanation as to why we lost him so soon and whilst we investigate further, we are having to accept that nothing will bring our boy back to us.’

Martine went on to pay tribute to her ‘big-hearted’ brother, saying that he was due to get married next month.

She saw her brother a few days before he died after he had gone to try on wedding suits: ‘He looked so tanned, tall and handsome. The best I’ve ever seen him… Ironic really… My heart aches for all who have lost him. But my heart breaks for our mum, his dad John & his Step parents.

‘You should never outlive your children. I’m scared to live without you LJ but I know you will want us to truly live, laugh and love in your memory. I will try I promise,’ she concluded.
