While he may not have been an original member of the NCIS team, Jimmy Palmer (played by Brian Dietzen) has played a key role in the CBS drama. Dietzen was originally hired as a supporting actor but was bumped up to series regular in 2012 with his character promoted to chief medical examiner a few years ago when Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum) chose to take a step back from the role. Dietzen clearly has a lot of love still for some of his former CBS castmates as he wished a happy birthday to Jenny Shepard star Lauren Holly for her 58th birthday – prompting a number of fans to react.

Dietzen took to Twitter to mark the milestone with his 204k followers.
The NCIS star simply wrote: “Happy birthday to @LaurenHolly!!! Miss you my friend! Hope it’s a great day.”
Holly may have left the show as Director Jenny Shepard 13 years ago but it is clear that Dietzen hasn’t forgotten his former co-star and friend.
Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for NCIS fans to send their own well wishes.
Replying to Dietzen’s sweet tweet, one fan said: “Happy birthday, Director!”
A second commented: “Happy birthday to our Jenny!”, while another replied: “Wonderful actress, happy birthday”.
A fourth replied to Dietzen saying: “Oh my god, I’m crying!”, clearly emotional at the sentimental tweet.
These messages didn’t go unnoticed by Holly herself either as she wrote “Thank you!” in response to her former colleague.
Dietzen may have been the one to send Holly the birthday tweet but fans will best remember her for Jenny’s relationship with Agent Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon).
When she was first introduced as the new NCIS director, it was soon discovered that she and Gibbs had a romantic past.
This led to plenty of sexual tension for the next three years in the series with fans hoping they would eventually get back together.
Sadly, this wasn’t meant to be as she was killed off in the season five finale after sustaining a gunshot wound in an abandoned diner.

But as Holly previously explained, she wasn’t initially meant to be in NCIS for that long.
In fact, the plan was to only be in the CBS drama for a handful of episodes.
She told Smashing Interviews Magazine in 2016: “When it started, I was just supposed to do six episodes.
“The next thing I knew, I was there, and I did 80-something episodes.
“It was always meant to be a short-term thing, so it ended up being kind of a gift. It was kind of perfect.”
As Jenny was killed off several years ago, it is very unlikely Holly will return to NCIS.
Dietzen, on the other hand, remains one of the stars of the show with Jimmy going through a particularly rough time in season 18.
Jimmy’s wife Breena Palmer (Michelle Pierce) died of COVID-19, leaving him to try and balance work with taking care of their young daughter Victoria and still grieving her loss.
Now in season 19, Jimmy continues to be one of the show’s best-loved and most popular characters.
NCIS season 19 continues on Monday CBS in America. A UK release date has not yet been announced.
